10 Songs That Make Me Really Happy

When I was setting up this blog, this came up as a generic blog post suggestion. But ya know what – yeh – imma tell you some songs that make me feel really fucking happy!

I want to preface this post a little bit and tell you all I sing and play guitar and back in the day wrote some originals and recorded them with a band. I love music. It is an integral part of my life so when I say these songs make me happy, I fucking mean it.

“Thank you for the music” (ABBA)

Here we go…

Outrageous – Amber Lawrence

Yep it’s a little bit country but I feel this song in my heart. “I don’t have a Plan B just because I should” just kind of sums up the whole. A song about following your creativity and not listening to people telling you what you should or shouldn’t do. And it’s fun to sing along with. So, thumbs up for Amber.

Walking on Sunshine – Katrina and the Waves

This is just one of those perfectly written rock pop songs that makes you feel like walking on fucking sunshine as soon as the first bar is played. And the complete abandon into joy at the thought of seeing someone you love reminds me of a more innocent ideal time (whenever that was – maybe just imaginary) – who cares. Download the hell out of this.

All Fired Up – Pat Benatar

Honestly there are so many Pat Benatar songs that make me happy but for pure anthem, blast the fuck outta this in the car and scream your lungs out value – this one is the mother load.

Map of Tasmania/Vegemite – Amanda Fucking Palmer

I am cheating – I couldn’t choose between these two – they are both fucking hilarious and fun to listen to and fun to sing. Choosing between the vadge or the veg – tough call. If there’s one thing that Prince and AFP have taught us; you can write a song about anything really so fuck it. Don’t even get me started on Prince – that is a whole blog of its own – adore!

Business Time – Flight of the Concords

All I’m gonna say is if you you’re down to just your socks it’s still business time that’s why they’re called business socks. These guys are so clever and funny and it just makes you feel happy to know that sometimes people have really boring sex lives and it’s okay to love that life and write a song about it.

Brave – Kate Ceberano

I have loved this song since the moment I heard it and nobody else could have ever possibly sung it. A coming of age song that reminds me of a younger time when the whole world seemed like it was your oyster and it was time to come into your own. I think this song can be interpreted to be about a romantic love, or God, or a passion, or any moment you’re about to have a fucking crack at something. It just makes you feel great and it will speak to you about your own courage.

The Best – Tina Turner

It just is – okay. It’s a song of pure joy to just really fucking dig someone and Tina Turner is a fucking legend. The End.

Three Little Birds – Bob Marley

I legit used to sing this to my kids when they were having a meltdown. Or maybe I was just singing it to myself so I didn’t lose my shit in the middle of the shopping centre. Who can say. But if Bob says don’t worry cos every little thing is gonna be alright, then dangnamit – it’s gonna be alright. Bob says…relax.

Dancing in the Storm – Boom Crash Opera

I crank this – you have to sing it loud. This song just rolls on like someone dancing out in the rain full of pure joy. It’s a sort of a let’s go round again kind of a vibe – fuck it.

Dr Feelgood – Motley Crue

If I am ever in my car and I’m cruising late at night and maybe driving a little bit too fast, I want this song cranked full. It just feels like euphoria to blast down the highway with this anthem pumping.

So yeh – didn’t get right through my playlist here but I also wanted to point out some songs that don’t make the google best lists; get away from the predictable stuff. Hit it up in the comments with the songs that make you feel really great no matter how random.

Peace Out
